15TH
ANNUAL
KERRVILLE
WINE & MUSIC FESTIVAL- LABOR DAY WEEKEND
KERRVILLE
,
TEXAS
- The 2006 Kerrville Wine & Music Festival is coming up
during Labor Day Weekend, September 1 - 3.
This annual celebration of songwriters and Texas Wines
will be held at the Quiet Valley Ranch, 9 miles south of the
Texas Hill Country resort community of
Kerrville
on TX Hwy 16.
Not
a typical “wine tasting” event, this 3-day festival is
mostly about music and will feature three 6-hour evening
concerts and two 2-hour afternoon concerts with over 2 dozen
singer-songwriters. There
will also be 3:30–5:30 PM wine seminars on both Saturday and
Sunday. The
performers for the Friday evening concert include Sahara Smith
(
Wimberley
TX
), Tom Kimmel (
Nashville
TN
), Claudia Nygaard (
Nashville
TN
), and The Sherpas (Tom Prasada-Rao, Michael Lille, and Tim
Kimmel together). Saturday’s evening concert line-up
consists of Dana Cooper (
Nashville
TN
), Michael Lille (
Lakewood
CO
), Zoe Lewis (
Provincetown
MA
), Tom Prasada-Rao (
Garland
TX
), and Caroline Aiken (
Atlanta
GA
). The Sunday
night closing set will feature Tim Grimm (Indianapolis IN),
Sara Hickman (Austin TX), Pierce Pettis (Montone AL), Stacy
Earle & Mark Stuart (Nashville TN).
Others will be added.
Each of the evening concerts start at 7 PM with the
outdoor theater gates opening at 6 PM.
We
are excited about this year’s musical line-up and feel that
it covers just about everyone’s musical tastes.
Wimberley’s Sahara
Smith will be making her first appearance on a
Kerrville
stage. 18 year old
singer-songwriter
Sahara
has appeared on NPR’s “Prairie Home Companion” and has
been listed as the Austin Chronicle’s, “Young
Artists to Watch”. Also
new to
Kerrville
is Tim Grimm from
Indianapolis
. "In
his home state, the Indianapolis Monthly magazine listed him
in their year end "Best of Indy" issue as their
singer-songwriter of choice. "The way this talented
artist can paint pictures dripping of time-honored
Americana
images with his words, can not help but evoke comparisons to
everyone from Woody Guthrie and Steve Goodman to Nebraska-era
Bruces Springsteen".
We
are also thrilled about the return of some of our
Kerrville
favorites like Sara Hickman, Dana Cooper,
Stacey Earle & Mark
Stuart, Caroline
Aiken, and The
Sherpas.
The
Lucky Tomblin Band, who was originally scheduled to perform at
this year’s Kerrville Folk Festival but had to cancel in
order to perform at a tribute concert for Clifford Antone,
will be coming out for Wine & Music.
They are scheduled to perform on Sunday, Sept 3.
The goal for the wine portion of the program is to send guests home with
a greater understanding and appreciation for the wines of
Texas
. In recent years
wines from
Texas
have compared favorably to those from France,
California
and the rest of the world.
A dozen
Texas
wineries will have booths in the main stage theater where they
will have tastes, glasses, and bottles of their current
vintage available for sale.
The themes for both wine seminars will be Texas Wines
and Texas Cheeses. Each
of the seminars will begin at 3:30 p.m. on both Saturday, Sept
2 and Sunday, Sept 3 and will be held in the newly renovated
Threadgill Theater in the Quiet Valley Ranch campgrounds.
Each seminar has a $5 admission fee and includes a
souvenir festival wine glass.
A
wide range of food and beverages are available in the theater
and the campgrounds. We
also have Arts & Crafts booths, escorted hill country bike
rides, and like the Kerrville Folk Festival in the spring, the
spectacular after-hours song circles and jam sessions in the
campgrounds.
The
three-day, Labor Day weekend advance discount adult ticket
price is $60 and includes free tent camping on the ranch.
Single-day, advance discounted tickets are $20 for
Friday, $25 for Saturday and $25 for Sunday.
Ticket purchase options with wine seminar registrations
are also available. Tickets
are available through Ticketweb by calling toll-free at (866)
468-7621 or on-line at www.kerrvillefolkfestival.com.
