1.  Dalis sez –

Dalis is currently on the road at the North American Folk Alliance Conference in Memphis.  She hopes that everyone is as excited about the upcoming festival as she is.

She also wanted me to let everyone know that the Kerrville Folk Festival has been voted BEST FESTIVAL for the 2007 North American Folk Alliance Annual Awards.  I guess the rest of the world is finding out what WE’VE known all along!

2.  2007 KERRVILLE FOLK FESTIVAL (May 24 – June 10) SCHEDULE POSTED!

Be sure to check out the 2007 schedule for this year’s Folk Festival.  It is currently posted on our website at www.kerrvillefolkfestival.com!  Once again, Dalis has put together a wonderful line-up including the return of Judy Collins, Peppino D’Agostino, John Gorka, Susan Werner and Jonathan Edwards along with a host of returning favorites like Trout Fishing in America, Ruthie Foster, Austin Lounge Lizards, The Laws, Jimmy LaFave, Sara Hickman, Terri Hendrix, AJ Croce, Patrice Pike, Ian Moore and dozens of others.   We’ll also be having a reunion of the Lost Gonzo Band with Gary P Nunn.  Every day is a winner!

Both html and printable pdf versions of the schedule are available.  Please be sure to check back often as the schedule is subject to changes and additions.

3.  FESTIVAL TICKETS ON SALE NEXT WEEK!

General ticket sales will start on Monday, May 26.  We’ll be launching a new ticketing system which hopefully will provide our guest with an easier and more enjoyable purchasing experience.

Advance Discounts Have Changed!  You will notice that we have eliminated the canned, multi-day discounted ticket packages in favor of a new discount model.  Over the years we had several comments about the fact that the old multi-day packages only benefited those who were attending the festival for the exact days specified in the package.  The new advance discount structure will cover all festival days and will provide a discount from between 20% and 35% depending on the total number of tickets purchased in an order.  The breakdown is as follows:

Buy 1 to 4 tickets in any combination – 20% off ticket price

Buy 5 to 10 tickets in any combination - 25% off tickets

Buy 11 to 17 tickets in any combination – 30% off tickets

Buy 18 or more tickets in any combination – 35% off tickets

Discounts apply to daily festival tickets only.  They do not apply to workshop registration fees, camping, or vehicle parking fees.

Elimination of (most) Service Charges!  No mandatory service fees will be added to your ticket order if you order online.  The only service charges will be for phone-in orders (add $3) or if you request that your tickets be mailed to you (add $3).

5.  FESTIVAL PARKING FEES – NEW POLICY!!!

Starting at this year’s festival there will be a $3 per day per vehicle charge to park in the festival parking lot.  You can purchase daily parking passes for just $2 per day per vehicle if you purchase in advance of the festival.

Why are we charging for parking?  Last year, our friend and neighbor Doc Horton passed away.  We had been using a chunk of Doc’s land as our parking lot.  Instead of losing the property (and subsequently our parking lot) to developers, a group of festival friends decided to purchase this piece of property.  In doing so, the festival agreed to assume a portion of the financial burden as well as to pay for improvements to the lot in the form of lighting, road stabilization, etc.  The parking fees will be directed toward these expenses.

We realize that this may be an unpopular policy, but given the alternative of not having a parking lot, we had no alternative.  We trust and hope that most of you will understand.

6.  2007 GRASSY HILL KERRVILLE NEW FOLK COMPETITION – ENTRY DEADLINE IS MARCH 15!

We started taking entries for New Folk on December 1.  Songwriters are given two options for submitting their songs.  They may send their tape/CD directly to the festival office or they may submit electronically by using Sonicbids.  Either way, the official guidelines MUST be followed.

The official guidelines for the 2007 Grassy Hill Kerrville New Folk Competition for Emerging Songwriters are posted on our website at www.kerrvillefolkfestival.com/newfolk.htm.  There are a few significant changes to the guidelines so be sure to read them carefully.

We will accept the first 800 entries we receive prior to March 15, 2007.  The 32 Finalists will be announced on or about April 15.

We’ve got several work weekends coming up including THIS weekend, Feb 23-24.  The main projects will be the staff showers and continuing to finish out the terracing at Threadgill.  We’ll also have live music this weekend!

After the crew leader meeting in Austin on March 10, we’ll probably have work weekends every week from March 17 until the beginning of the festival on May 24.

10.  DONATE TO THE BACKSTAGE SHOWER FUND

I think we all understand how important it is to keep are volunteer staff clean and happy.  While the existing backstage shower and bathroom facilities are still "functional" they are rapidly decaying to the point where they will soon be unusable.  With your help we can raise the money needed to build a new structure that will last for another 35 years. Please give what you can!  You may make a donation on the website
(www.kerrvillefolkfestival.com/shower_fund.htm ) through secure Pay Pal transaction, or you can mail a check payable to:

Backstage Shower Fund

PO Box 291466

Thanks to a generous donation from Robert Orenstien, we almost have the funds available to do this project, but we still need more.
