1.       Dalis sez –

And so the 35th year Folk Festival has come and gone as those before it….I had a fabulous time and hope you did too! Seeing old friends as they came to remember Allen Damron and making new ones as they discovered what so many of us have been privileged to know for all these many years was just a part of the deal. I am still amazed at how quickly the 18 days pass once they get going, as much as I am about how much we pack into them. I hope that I am always as happy doing what I do on Day 18 as I was on Day 1, I was this year. The closing night with the Kerrville Memorial Orchestra was absolutely beautiful. Thanks to Rod Kennedy for pulling that together and to David Amram and Dick Goodwin for all of the extra time they put in to make it truly a Tribute as well as a Memorial to those we have lost and to us for remaining true to the ideals that Kerrville represents. (and the cake was good too, thanks Betty)

On to the Wine & Music Festival Labor Day weekend, Sept 1- 3. The schedule is done except for a couple of maybes and tickets will be on sale July 3.

We have a Summer Music Camp for ages 12 – 18 (our first) put on by the Texas Folk Music Foundation, July 13 – 16. The Faculty includes Tom Prasada-Rao, Annie Wenz, Bill Oliver and Frank Meyer. It’s only $50 for participation. Camping, cooking out, canoe trips, sessions with each faculty on songwriting, playing instruments and learning about how music affects our lives every day no matter what we’re doing. More info about how to be a part of this event below.

We are currently putting together the Southwest Regional Folk Alliance Conference for Sept 28 – Oct 1 at Woodward Hotel in Austin . Great opportunities for artists to showcase and music lovers to listen. Check out the details at www.swrfa.com

Thanks to all of you who were at the Festival and to those of you who continue to read our letters and may be coming next time.

Love,

    Dalis

3.  WINE SEMINARS INFORMATION

Both wine seminars this year will be on Texas Wines & Texas Cheeses and will start at 3:30 p.m. (sharp) on Saturday, Sept 2 and Sunday, Sept 3.  Seminars will be held at the newly renovated Threadgill Theater in the Quiet Valley Ranch campgrounds.

During each of these seminars, four different Texas wineries will be selecting a particular wine to be paired with their choice of Texas cheese.  Each will also discuss their winery operations, events, and the Texas Wine industry.

Pre-paid reservations are required for each seminar at $5 per seminar per person.  Each registration includes a free souvenir festival wine glass.  You may reserve a spot in advance by selecting one of the ticket purchase options that include the wine seminars (listed on the ticket page).  You may also sign up at the wine ticket booth in the Kennedy Outdoor Theater during the evening performances.  Space is limited so sign up early.

5.  SUMMER MUSIC CAMP FOR TEENAGERS

The Texas Folk Music Foundation in association with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Texas are proud to announce the first Summer Youth Music Camp to be held at the Quiet Valley Ranch from July 13 – 16, 2006.  This program is designed to provide youth ages 13 through 18 with a quality music camp that will creatively help teens find their own sound and voice.  With professional singer/songwriters and musicians (Tom Prasada-Rao, Annie Wenz, and Bill Oliver), we hope this camp will provide new opportunities in music.  In addition, this camp will provide a full outdoor experience including camping, canoeing, camp fires, and much more!

The cost of the camp is just $50 per student.  Students must be accompanied by an adult.  For more information and a registration form, visit the website of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Coryell and Lampasas Counties at www.bgclubcc.org/news.html.

10.  DONATE TO THE BACKSTAGE SHOWER FUND

I think we all understand how important it is to keep are volunteer staff clean and happy.  While the existing backstage shower and bathroom facilities are still "functional" they are rapidly decaying to the point where they will soon be unusable.  With your help we can raise the money needed to build a new structure that will last for another 35 years. Please give what you can!  You may make a donation on the website
(www.kerrvillefolkfestival.com/shower_fund.htm ) through secure Pay Pal transaction, or you can mail a check payable to:

Backstage Shower Fund
c/o Kerrville Folk Festival
PO Box 291466
Kerrville TX 78029

Thanks to a generous donation from Robert Orenstien, we almost have the funds available to do this project, but we still need more.

11.  WORK WEEKEND & PROJECT REPORT

Work is continuing on the Threadgill Theater reconstruction project.  Hopefully the terracing and seating will be completed prior to the Wine & Music Festival.

The last two weekends before Labor Day will be Work Weekends to prepare for Wine & Music.  These will be the weekends of August 18 – 20, and August 25 – 28.  Most of what we will be doing will be ranch clean-up and minor construction and repair.  Bring your work clothes, gloves, yard tools, and your camping gear.

WE’LL NEED YOUR HELP!!!
