"Ernie Hawkins
studied with the cream of acoustic blues players.
Hawkins clearly and systematically dissects the
playing of two of the most influential country
bluesmen, Blind Willie McTell and Lightnin' Hopkins.
Hawkins' precise and detailed commentary makes
McTell's complex and subtle picking style
comprehensible and accessible." Michael Parrish

Ernie Hawkins is a
man with a mission. He is a disciple of a form of
Blues nearly lost in our times, that of the Piedmont
style of guitar. It's complexity and beauty has a
direct African link that speaks directly from and to
the soul. We have been most fortunate on Hornby to
be witness to virtuosity. Ernie has reminded us that
Blues is not just an electric bar scene experience.
It was born in the country by people who lifted
their heads above their problems and drew from their
roots, flowered and spread the seed of Blues. We
thank Ernie for his teachings and feel that the
spirit of Rev. Gary Davis and his peers was well
passed on.
